Minutes 29 August 2022

The AGM has been postponed to Thursday 6 October, 7pm, Royal British Legion. Please save the date, we’ll send an agenda in due course!

Public report directors meeting Dufftown & Mortlach Development Trust

Present are – Eleanor Candy (chair), Siebette Wester (secretary), Gillian McGarthland (treasurer). Apologies for Norma Hunter (director) and Anne Jan Zandstra (director). Also present are 2 potential new directors to learn more about the DMDT and the way it is run.

In the directors meeting of 29 August 2022 the following items were discussed:

  1. The minutes of the previous meeting on 1 August were approved by all present.
  2. We have received 2 new membership applications and 1 resignation bringing total membership at 73 members – 60 ordinary members and 13 associate members.
  3. The AGM is postponed until Thursday 6 October as members have indicated this date suits better. We discuss preparations.
  4. Paths: we have found a local engineer that will source a suitable contractor and supervise the works. The preferred contractor is not available any time soon, we will explore availability of others.
  5. Heritage trail: updated plans have been sent to the Council, all issues sorted but one: the size of the panels for the Pictish Stone and the Mortlach Church. We are looking into solutions. After the Council grants the advertisement consent works can start.
  6. History app: final actions to be taken once the Heritage trail is sorted.
  7. Pictish stones: This project is on hold until presbytery planning will be completed, which is expected by the end of the year.
  8. Markets: next one is 10 September. We have been able to find several new stall holders. DMDT to raffle another themed hamper: ‘hot drinks’.
  9. Tourism agenda: we briefly discuss what should be part of our tourism agenda – which is not aimed at tourists exclusively but at facilities/amenities/events that make Dufftown an interesting place to stay. Public Toilets and Accessible paths come first to mind. Paths are also subject of interest of DDCA, any plans from our side should be coordinated with them. At the AGM we will gauge support from our members for our ideas, and perhaps they will come with good suggestions as well.
  10. Review Ride the North cycling event 27 August: it was a fantastic event, with many cyclists stopping in Dufftown and enjoying a warm welcome. All well prepared and executed in cooperation with the Royal British Legion. We note some minor wishes to discuss with the RtN-organisation for next time – having learned from this time.
  11. Christmas edition market – 10 December. We will set up a working group for preparations, Eleanor and Margriet to coordinate. Just like last year we would like to involve other community groups where possible. We explore some first ideas; a separate meeting will be necessary to start in time.
  12. Date and time of next meeting: Monday 26 September – 7pm.
